Mud Lake, Riddell State Park

Climb up and over South Hill in Robert V. Riddell State Park with Patricia Riddell Kent and Steve Kent, donors of the park. This 3.5-hour, 4.5-mile hike traverses woods rich in beauty and history, makes a stop at a spectacular, 30-foot waterfall, swings by Mud Lake, a bog at the top of the hill, and continues down to the Pine Lake Campus of Hartwick College. In keeping with the theme of this year’s Glimmerglass Film Days, we’ll investigate Mohican Farm as a ‘home.’ Enjoy an easy walk through fields, gardens, woods, and along the lake shore and understand how each environment supports different plant and animal life. Otsego County residents can bring used bale wrap, silage bags, bunker and greenhouse covers and wood pellet bags to the Southern Transfer Station in Oneonta for free recycling. Plastic must be relatively clean and separated by type to be accepted. Call (607) 282-4087 to pre-register and for information on how to properly prepare plastic for recycling. Also available November 16 at the Northern Transfer Station in Cooperstown.

Have the winter time blues?  Bundle up and hit the woodland trail Winter Carnival weekend at the Clark Sports Center in Cooperstown with OCCA Program Director Jeff O'Handley.  This themed hike will focus on signs of life past, present and future. Look for animal tracks and scat (aka, poop!), nests, evidence of feeding and more. The event is free and open to the public.  Meet in the lobby of the Clark Sports Center.
