October 2, 2022
I Spy Invasive Species

10am – 12pm
Come join the Catskill Regional Invasive Species Partnership (CRISP), Otsego County Conservation Association (OCCA), and other local partners on October 2nd at 10am for a float down the Susquehanna River looking at invasive (and some native) species growing along its shores and in its water.  Learn how to identify invasive riparian and aquatic plants found in the Susquehanna Watershed while enjoying a float down the scenic river!

October 7
Get the Kids Out – Wetland Exploration

10:30am – 12pm
OCCA educator Shelby MacLeish will lead a hike at Forest of a Dozen Dads in Cooperstown on Friday, October 7 h from 10:30 am-12 pm to celebrate fall and a day off from school! We will explore the edges of a beaver pond and identify trees and plants along the way. There is a picnic pavilion in case you want to pack a lunch for after the hike, and this hike will help you complete the fall Octet Challenge from Otsego Outdoors. October 21
OCCA Homeschool Nature Group

12pm – 2pm
Join OCCA educator Shelby MacLeish at Emmon’s Pond Bog on Friday, October 21, from 1-2 pm. This is the first meetup geared toward homeschool families (although it is open to all), where we will combine nature exploration and longer-term site monitoring. On the 21st, we will explore the bog site before performing water quality tests in the field. This path can be mucky and wet, especially after rain. Wear boots or shoes that can get muddy.

Natural Burial in Otsego County – Presented by the Upper Catskill Natural Burial Association

2pm – 3:30pm
Join OCCA Project Coordinator Anna and her group, the Upper Catskill Natural Burial Association, for a presentation about natural burial and information about how to get involved in the creation of a natural burial cemetery in Otsego County.
There will be ample opportunity to ask questions, connect with others interested in natural burial, and learn more about greener options for death care.
