Little Thing #28: Don’t Litter! (And help clean it up)

One of the easiest things you can do to help our environment is actually something you shouldn’t do. We’re talking about littering!

When you litter, you’re putting your environment and the ecosystem of plants and animals at risk. You’re also taking away from the natural beauty that surrounds us. While everyone knows we shouldn’t litter, why do we still see garbage on the side of the road or in parking lots in our daily life?

You can make a big difference by not only not adding to the litter, but also joining a group in a litter/highway clean-up event. Here at OCCA, we try to have a highway clean-up event on State Highway 80 in Cooperstown, which is where our office is. As we plan our next event, look out for the sign-up to join us! You can also check with your local organizations like the Lions Club, Rotary Club, or the Adopt-a-Highway Coordinator of Otsego County, at (607) 432-5810.

Help OCCA continue offering outdoor experiences, promoting sustainable practices, and advocating for the protection of the amazing natural beauty and resources we are so fortunate to have.
