Little Thing #33: Use what you have!

More often than not, we already have what we’re looking for. Before you purchase something new for anything (clothes, shoes, household wares, supplies for your car/bike, etc.) take stock of what you, or friends and family have on hand.

By taking this pause, you’ll easily save money and help reduce waste. If you need something you don’t already have, think about looking for second-hand items (if applicable) before buying new.

Look to repurpose items that you already own for additional sustainability.

  • Think of using glass jars from sauce, peanut butter, or pickles to store leftovers. This will reduce your need to buy additional storage containers.
  • If you have older clothes that you aren’t going to donate or sell, repurpose them into bags or skirts
  • Take old t-shirts that mean a lot to you and make a patchwork quilt – remember to turn the scraps into rags you can use around the house!

Help OCCA continue offering outdoor experiences, promoting sustainable practices, and advocating for the protection of the amazing natural beauty and resources we are so fortunate to have.
