Little Thing #9: Grow native plants.

Trees, shrubs, and flowers that are native to our state are some of the most vital plants we can grow. Native plants have many benefits, including:

Low maintenance & conserve water – because these plants are native, they work incredibly well with their ecosystem, requiring less care and water

Healthy option for homes and climate – requiring less overall care, the need for fertilizers or pesticides is nearly nonexistent. This keeps you, your family, and your entire property protected!

Protect and support local wildlife – the native plants are a vital piece of our local environment. Native plans provide protection, food, and overall support to local wildlife, including birds, bees, insects, and other pollinators.

Review the list below from NYS DEC to see which native plants you have already. This is also a great guide to learn about native plants to add to your gardens and landscape!
